RECOLLECTION

Memories of Roswell

by granddaughter Mary D. Williams

2006

At age fourteen, Mary Davenport wrote about her grandfather, Roswell Davenport, who began coming to RDC in 1925 at the same age.

Going to Rockywold-Deephaven meant everything to my grandfather. Although he rarely went again after his childhood, he still carried his memories with him. When his son, my father, started taking his family to Rockywold-Deephaven, Roswell was determined to join us at Squam, but old age and arthritis held him back from going and he had to hold his memories in his heart where they belonged. When my grandfather related these memories to me, he let out his heart. He could not stop smiling. I knew that he could see every rock, chair, tree, dock, building, and root in his mind.
